Germ cell tumors
Germinomas (most common)
Teratomas
Pineal tumor
Pineocytomas, pineoblastomas
Other: Mets, Meningioma, Glioma.
Nearly evenly split between males and females (unlike germ cell tumors)
Along with pineoblastomas account for 15% of pineal region tumors
Pineocytomas more often seen in adults
Pineoblastomas and germ cell tumors more often in younger patients.
Pineocytomas less likely to seed subarachnoid space.
Imaging: Ca++, densely enhancing, dense on non-enhanced CT, iso to low intensity on T2 weighted images.
