Abnormal persistence of meninx primitiva

50% association with brain malformations

Location: midline (80-95%): dorsal pericallosal, quadrigeminal plate, ambient, interpeduncular, chiasmatic and sylvian cisterns

CT: very low density (-50 - -100 HU), +/- curvilinear/nodular calcifications

MR: hi T1, chemical shift artifact, drops out with fat suppression.

Composed of ectodermal elements with skin appendages

Location: Midline -- LS spine (#1), parasellar, frontobasal, posterior fossa

Complication: Rupture into the subarachnoid space.
