Esthesioneuroblastomas are malignancies of neural crest origin from the olfactory epithelium.

They usually present as a bilobed mass with the central waist at the cribriform plate. Cysts at the periphery of the mass are a diagnostic aid.

They have bimodal age distribution. They usually have exuberant homogeneous enhancement but may have necrotic foci.

Differential masses include: meningioma, squamous cell ca, undifferentiated carcinomas, plasmacytoma, and lymphoma.
