MS frequently involves the dorsal columns of the cord. Greater than 90% of patients with cord lesions secondary to MS will have brain involvement.

There is usually a short segment of involvement of less than two vertebral body lengths, as opposed to idiopathic transverse myelitis which usually has a longer segment of involvement.
